AO Archive: Transitioning from GUI Editors to Vim
https://spin.atomicobject.com/2017/09/18/vim-essentials/
This was my very first blog post written at Atomic Object! A lot of Atoms use vim – sometimes inside of an IDE like VS Code, and sometimes just in a shell. My first project was lead by Mike Swieton, who is a bit of a vim expert. He taught me a lot of the basics, and then I used various online materials to learn the rest of what I know. Today I still use vim frequently.
While I do not think that vim is an essential skill for developers, it is a valuable skill nonetheless.
P.S. You may notice that the very first comment on my very first post was not very nice. I encourage everyone to stay civil and to not make assumptions when talking to strangers online 🌞. On the bright side, it did teach me a new British phrase, “taking the piss.”
